About

A Japanese izakaya at night: a warmly lit wooden facade with a glowing red paper lantern, a wooden door, vertical signage and hanging banners, and a chef visible through a side window.

I'm Sertan, a software engineering leader.

For more than fifteen years I've built and run distributed systems across automotive (Mercedes-Benz), online retail (ASOS), location intelligence (GBG), and a cash-savings platform (Flagstone). I currently lead engineering at Omnio, an embedded-finance platform. I hold an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Bath.

My focus now is the practical adoption of AI in software engineering: agentic development workflows, MCP servers, spec-driven development, and the leadership decisions that determine whether any of it actually pays off. I write about it because most of what's said about AI and engineering is either hype or doom, and the useful version is neither.
